Huskie Football: A Family Affair, Part 2

Once a Huskie, always a Huskie. We've said it and we believe it.

Since our February story on family connections across generations of Huskie football, we have received dozens of emails sharing further connections. Here is just one story shared courtesy of Rick Dobrow.

Playing for the Huskies for four years from 1964 to 1967, Rick Dobrow (originally Rick Dobrowolsky) was a three-time all-star in the Western University Conference and was the team's MVP in 1967. A defensive end, Rick just missed a chance to play in the first-ever Vanier Cup in 1965. The Huskies finished the season in a three-way tie for first place with the Manitoba Bisons and Alberta Golden Bears. Alberta was awarded the right to advance from the Western Conference based on points for-and-against between the three teams. Rick graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1968 with a degree in pharmacy. He retired in 2014.

Nearly 30 years later, Rick's son, Mark, played for the Huskies in 1990. A graduate of Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon, Mark, a receiver, red shirted with the Huskies and received a '90 Vanier Cup ring. A leg injury stopped him from playing more seasons with the Huskies. He graduated from the U of S with a Bachelor of Commerce and went on to receive a Masters in Science in Epidemiology from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He went ton to receive his PhD in Health Sciences & Policy Research and now works for the University of Toronto.
